We are pleased to announce that Wakefield has been chosen as a pilot site to set up a Women's Health Centre of Excellence
We are one of only seven places in the whole of England, and the only one across the North East and Yorkshire.
Over the coming months we will be working towards the launch of our Centre of Excellence in October. For women across the Wakefield district, it will mean expert menopause and urogynaecology care brought closer to home, with more time to talk things through, clear information and the support of others going through something similar. An element of this is the development of group clinics which will be led by a GP or clinician with specialist training in women’s health. These appointments will combine expert advice, education and peer support, giving women the opportunity to learn from specialists, ask questions and hear from others facing similar experiences.
Our partnership approach
This is a proud moment for the district and important one for women who live in the district. Our success belongs to everyone who helped get us here. That includes our 34 GP practices, our hospital colleagues at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, our partners at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and community organisations including Live Well Wakefield and EvergreenActive. Conexus will be leading the set up and delivery of the programme and our partnership approach is exactly why we were selected as a pilot.
A key strength of the Wakefield model is our ability to deliver clinics and services at scale across all our neighbourhoods. Work is happening across the Wakefield district to develop Integrated Neighbourhood Teams and as a Centre of Excellence, Women’s Health will sit firmly at the heart of these. Conexus already provides and enhanced access service, GP Care, for our GP Practices. This is delivered out of community sites and we will be developing the Women’s Health clinics on a similar framework.
