About

The Voice of General Practice in Wakefield

Our role is to provide a unified platform for general practice, ensuring that practices have the support, capacity and resources they need to deliver high‑quality patient care. By working collectively, we are able to plan more effectively, coordinate services, and respond to population needs across the whole district.

As a GP federation we are a formal organisation made up of multiple GP practices that choose to work together as a single entity in their local health system.

What We Do

1. Clinical Services

Through GP Care Wakefield, we deliver essential services on behalf of practices and local partners, including extended access appointments, NHS Health Checks, and other community‑based programmes that help identify health needs earlier.

We also offer clinical research, health checks and a sessional workforce to support practices, primary care networks and patients.

2. Learning and Workforce Development

Through our learning and development programmes, we support the primary care and wider health and care workforce – from administrative teams to clinical professionals. Our training ranges from medical administration, social prescribing, personal and team development, mental wellbeing and specialist programmes for PCN staff.

3. Organisational and operational support

We provide practices and PCNs with HR, governance, finance, digital communications, and workforce coordination support, enabling them to focus more time on patient care and service delivery.

Our Commitment

Our purpose is to strengthen general practice across Wakefield by encouraging collaboration, supporting innovation, and ensuring our services continue to meet the needs of more than 386,000 local people.

Everything we deliver is shaped by partnership working and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for patients and communities

Our 2024-2025 Year End Achievements

Like many organisations, we are so busy doing the day to day stuff that we sometimes don’t take the time to take stock and reflect upon our achievements.

We have created a number of year end review infographics designed to show the breadth and interconnectivity of the work that we do. Our delivery is dependent upon all areas of the organisation pulling together and bringing expertise to the table. The projects and services highlighted have been selected to demonstrate this collaborative effort.
