Book appointments at evenings and weekends
Same day and routine evening/weekend appointments are provided by Conexus on behalf of all practices in the Wakefield District. The service is known locally as GP Care Wakefield.
Practice telephone systems are automatically diverted to the service when the practice is closed. Practices need to ensure that patients should continue to phone their regular GP practice number in order to access GP Care.
Patient call-backs for urgent same day needs during the week can also be booked by practice teams. Our practices are organised into seven Primary Care Networks (PCNs) across the district and the times at which the same day appointments can be booked is usually 1pm.
Routine appointments can be booked by practice teams up to 2 weeks in advance via remote booking.
Practice staff will be asked to provide a brief description of the needs of the patient when booking them into GP Care, to make sure we can meet these needs appropriately.

Our practices are very supportive of the GP care service. Here is what one of our GPs said:
Using the evening and weekend clinic is a faster way for patients to get help and speak to a GP when suddenly unwell at evenings and weekends. In most cases they might not even need to leave home. Most problems can be dealt with over the phone and recorded straight in to the patient’s record, with any urgent tasks flagged for you."
