Get Online Week – Top Tips, NHS App and PATCHS

It’s Get Online Week next week and our Digital and Transformation Team have prepared some top tips to help you better manage your health online.

Being able to access your health information online can save you time and enable you to be more in control of your health and health choices.  The team have recently launched a brand new Wakefield Patient Digital Champion Group and are looking for volunteers who will be trained to help support other patients in their practice to use digital tools and apps.

Top Tips

Did you know you can order your Repeat Prescriptions on the NHS App?

There’s no need to join a telephone queue or wait until your GP surgery opens. Use the NHS App to order and manage your repeat prescriptions.

  • Use the NHS App to view your Test Results. There is no need to call the GP surgery – simply view your blood test results within the app, under your ‘GP Health Record’.

  • We know that things crop up last minute and sometimes appointments need to be cancelled. You can use the NHS App to cancel an appointment at your GP surgery. Save yourself from telephone queues and manage your appointment under ‘Your Health’ and then ‘Upcoming and Past Appointments’.
  • As a parent, family member or carer, you may be able to manage services for another person by switching to their profile. This is also sometimes called having a linked profile or having proxy access. It needs to be set up by a GP surgery where you and the other person are both registered. You can then switch profiles using the NHS App or by logging in through the NHS website. Visit https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/nhs-app-help-and-support/linked-profiles-in-the-nhs-app/ to find out more!
  • Use the online consultation system PATCHS to contact your GP about a health problem without having to wait on the phone. Use your NHS App to complete 9 standard questions then your practice will get back to you.
